By becoming more self-aware, I have noticed that where I would lose focus and make unhealthy decisions – I’ve now been able to ask myself, what is my “why” to regain my focus to stay on my grind.

Sometimes we think about all the negative $#$^ and lose focus on the great things in life. I am learning that I have allowed my emotions to control my thoughts. By becoming more self-aware, I have noticed that where I would lose focus and make unhealthy decisions – I’ve now been able to ask myself, what is my “why” to regain my focus to stay on my grind. Here are 3 ways to become more self-aware.

Change your focus, change your mindset.

“Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness.” ~ James Thurber

Awareness is essential for happiness in life. Self-awareness is a way to know who you truly are by connecting to your inner peace. It is something that is developed over time and needs to be exercised consistently to build consistency.

Self-awareness will allow you to understand the world better and have more patience for yourself. When more positive vibes are flowing – we allow more happiness in our lives, especially into our mindset and outlook on life.

This leads to greater opportunities to celebrate life, love, family, friends, health and so much more. Begin each day with gratification. This will allow the world to bring more positivity to you.

As you begin this new self-awareness journey, I want to share a few tips with you to make this even more enjoyable.

3 Ways to Become More Self-Aware

1. Keep a daily journal

You should get a designated video recorder, notebook or diary, pen,  and journal where you will record your daily activities, emotions, and what you feel about each day. This will enable you to keep track of trends and learn more about who you are.

When you note about your feelings and identify what triggers certain feelings, you will be aware of unhealthy thoughts as well as feelings.

You will also be able to identify the reason why you are having those negative thoughts and how it influences your decision making and find a way to prevent negative thoughts from affecting your life.

As we think, we perform…

2. Acknowledge the joy in your life.

Check yourself; identify the things that make you happy and those that piss you off. Look at it from different lenses the positive side as well as the negative side. You can take a look in the mirror and answer the following questions:

  • Who am I?
  • On most days, what makes me happy?
  • In life, what pisses me off?
  • What things put me in a great mood?
  • Who inspires me?
  • What makes me Laugh?

You should be honest with yourself when answering these questions. If you feel you desire to change anything, develop a plan that will provide more joy to come your way.

3. Give yourself continuing self-assessments

Once you start to understand who you really are, what gets you upset, and what makes you laugh – the next step is to reflect and check your improvement and progress.

For example, you can ask yourself questions like:

  • What did I do well today?
  • Can I do something differently to improve on this tomorrow?
  • How did this lessons help me to learn a new activity?

These questions will allow you to perform a self-awareness check on your current state, progress, and growth. More so, you will cultivate and enhance your self-awareness all around.

Self-awareness is a Key Pathway to Happiness

In the past, I did not ask myself these questions, I was just living, settling for what life was giving. Now, I ask myself these questions every day, it did not happen overnight. I did not wake up one day and say let’s be self-aware.

It takes time like everything else. For example, you want to lose weight, you just don’t go run on the treadmill for an hour and drop 20lbs? No. it takes consistent exercise along with nutrition. So to cultivate your self-awareness it needs to be exercised consistently.

Unfortunately, Until you are aware in the moment of your thoughts, emotions, words, and behavior, you will have difficulty making changes in the direction of your life.

Today, I challenge you to take time to practice self-awareness so that for the rest of the year you can be more productive, positive, and progressive in your own growth.
